I suffered a serious heart attack 5 years ago. When I got out of the hospital, I was in need of someone to help me take walks, run errands, and just be a friend to me. I contacted Helping Hands for the disabled and Alice, the founder and director, matched me up with a volunteer who helped me a great deal. His name was John and he read my mail, took walks with me, and even showed me how to work the ATM by writing down the steps so I could put them in braille and learn them.
This was a very low point in my life, and I was feeling very isolated and depressed.
Helping Hands was a tremendous help to me. I am grateful to Alice for finding me a person who was able to work with me and make things better for me.
